If you know me, you know I am a worrier. One of the things I worry about the most is car accidents. It's so funny. On Monday, Joe and I were at the gas station and we were talking about all the car accidents we've been in during our lives. (Not many for either of us.)
And then, BAM, Tuesday comes along and we get in a car accident. We were driving to get Joe some shirts for his new job. We decided not to take the freeway because traffic was pretty bad. We were stopped in a line of cars at a light and the girl behind us didn't stop in time. I remember our car stopping, the sound of squealing breaks and the slam. I remember my body going forward and the seat belt tightening and pushing me back. It really hurt.
We had been driving with the windows down and I was holding a bag of catnip we had just bought from Petco. When the car hit us, the force made the bag of catnip fly out of my hands. The first thing I thought was, "I have to get that catnip before it falls out the window." It's so weird how your brain works sometimes.
Joe made sure I was ok and drove the car to the side of the road. Then he went to check on the people in the other car (they were ok) and helped move their car out of the road. I looked in the mirror and saw our trunk had popped open. I got out to see the damage, which was surprisingly little, to our beetle. The other car was spewing liquid all over the road.
There was grass and shade so I sat down to wait for things to happen. We called the police. It turns out the other driver wasn't insured, which may make things difficult.
I wanted to blog about it because I'm still pretty upset. I feel dumb being upset because it wasn't a serious accident. You can barely tell the bug was hit. But it hurt and it was scary and I keep thinking about it.
I still hurt. Yesterday, it was my neck and back. but today my left ribs (right where the seatbelt catches) hurt. If you look at them, you can see there is some swelling. It hurts to bend over and riding in a car is almost impossible. I think there is just some bruising, but I am probably going in for x-rays tomorrow just to be sure.

VWs get pretty good crash test ratings, so I am not surprised it wasn't too crunched. It's always good to get checked out, and I am glad everyone is ok!
